The Bhagavad Gita is a profound scripture that delves into five fundamental truths and their interrelationships: Krishna (God), the individual soul, the material world, action in this world, and time. The Bhagavad Gita holds a significant place in Hindu scriptures as it is a part of the 5th Veda and the epic Mahabharata, written by Vedavyasa - an ancient Indian saint. It was originally narrated on the battlefield of Kurukshetra by Lord Krishna to Arjuna.

Arjuna seeks wisdom and guidance from Krishna amidst the turmoil of a fratricidal war. Throughout their discourse, Krishna imparts profound teachings on devotion, selfless action, and wisdom. The Bhagavad Gita upholds the essence and philosophical traditions of the Upanishads while also incorporating elements of dualism and theism.

Since its inception, the Bhagavad Gita has garnered countless commentaries with diverse perspectives. Starting with Adi Sankara's eighth-century CE commentary, various scholars have interpreted its essence differently. The battlefield setting of the Gita serves as an allegory for the ethical and moral conflicts faced by humans in their lives.

Renowned figures like Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi found solace and inspiration in the Bhagavad Gita during India's struggle for independence. Gandhi referred to it as his "spiritual dictionary."
